Literature Text

In the beginning, it was dark.
She stumbled through the cold blackness, hands in pockets, lifeless eyes averted to the ground.
And then there was light.
The overhead flickered to life like someone had turned a switch, each star illuminating in absolute precision. She smiles, and her eyes enliven, her heart ignites.
A hand grips her shoulder, and she warms instantly for she knows exactly who it is.
"See how the stars gleam?" He whispers, waving a finger to the sky. "Each one has it's own purpose, it's own reason to be."
She breathes. "But there are millions."
"Exactly." He grins for a half-second. "But you see, my child…you have that too. You are meant to do such wonderful things. You will touch hearts, and you will be excellent." His smile grows wider with each passing word.
She was silent, her eyes drifting to the ground.
His pride turned to concern. "What's wrong?"
"It really is great news, but I don't know if I can do that. I'm afraid you'll have to get someone else." She shuffled her feet.
His grip loosened, disappointed. "Someone else? They'll never do. I mean, if you don't want to do it, then that sure is a shame…"
"I'd do it in a second if I could…"
"You can."
"But…"

"Do you think the stars wonder if they have the means to shine? Do you think they worry about their radiance?" he chuckled. "That would be absurd."
She hesitated as he turned to her, his eyes warming with excitement as he took her hands. "Don't you realize that you are so much more important than them? Why should you doubt yourself?"
"I just…I just don't know if I can do it."
He grins, undaunted. "But you can, with me, you can!" She giggles a bit as he wipes her tears away. "You'll find strength in me if you have the will to be strong. I'll give you the words…all you have to do is write them."
She grinned, nodding her head and resting it on his shoulder.

And she held the pen.
And he held her.
And she wrote.
And it began.

This is great! I like how the start is so similar to Genesis 1... that's what I first noticed. :P
Love the last bit too - it reads sort of poem-like. And the middle is great too :D So often God calls us and we feel like we're not really worth it or can't manage. Maybe that's why He does - so that we realise we have to fall back on Him and He'll give us th strength and ability. :)
